Great Tips to Rent a Room or Find a Roommate
- It’s always best to know how long you need a rental for, and if you need to be flexible with the lease term. Short term rentals and rentals on a Monday to Friday basis are possible, so you do not need to accept a room if it does not fit your requirement. There are many house shares and apartment shares available, so you can afford to be picky.
- Make sure you put your profile on the house share websites (like this one!). Be honest about yourself and what you are looking for to get the best results, you don’t need to pretend you’re someone that you’re not! It is best to find out if you and your new roommate will be compatible to live together before you actual move in, since it could lead to an uncomfortable living situation in the future.
- Make sure you know the house rules if you have a live with the landlord or if you’re living with other renters, it will lead to more comfortable house!
- If you are planning to bring in your own furniture, make sure to let the landlord know beforehand to make sure that they are acceptable.
- Let everyone you live with know about what hours you work, and find out when your roommates work as well, so you can respect their schedule, as they will respect yours. Also if you come home late often, it might make sense to be honest about this, if your roommate is the opposite it could cause problems.
- Consider house size, bigger shares could include a large garden and outdoor facilities and might be cheaper. However think about how many people you’ll actually be living with!
- Consider contents insurance, there are firms who offer house share insurance giving you greater protection.
